Baidu launches chatbot to compete with ChatGPT

China’s leading search network Baidu launched its Ernie Bot chatbot using artificial intelligence technology yesterday, officially competing with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Instead of launching the new technology directly, Baidu released a video announcing Ernie Bot.

On stage, Baidu’s CEO confirmed that the chatbot was still unfinished, but high usage prompted the company to launch the product earlier than expected.

The hasty quotation immediately caused Baidu’s stock price to plummet, and more than 6% of its market value evaporated.

650 companies have already signed up to use Ernie Bot, which is being touted as having potential applications in areas such as search, cloud storage, autonomous driving and smart devices.
